I’m waiting tables. Again. But it’s different this time. Even though the pace is slow and the tips are lame, it’s ok. I’m ok with this. Ultimately because I am without expectation. It’s not about the money, I remind myself. It’s about the smiles, the service, the experience I get to create for our guests. And as someone who very much values hospitality and entertaining, it truly is a joy. After all, I get to host an intimate evening affair, where couples can romance over a bottle of sake and families can gather for merry memory-making and laughs. My job: to keep them smiling, laughing, happy. What a fabulous way to earn wages, no?
I have realized it is a fulfilling job, if I let it be. And such is life: It is fulfilling, if you let it be. If we care about what matters, and not dwell on our selves… if we care about each other, and not our own failures… if we serve, expectation-free… life is that much more rewarding. Because it’s not about you; it’s not about me. It’s about we.
“… enourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace.” ~ 2 Corinthians 13:11
